Idebenone, Ubiquinone and Ubiquinol What are the differences?

Idebenone is a synthetic molecule. It does not occur in nature. It is approved as a drug in Japan. It is currently undergoing clinical trials in patients with Friedreich’s Ataxia. Idebenone is an analog of CoQ10.

Ubiquinone and Ubiquinol are Redox compounds. Ubiquinone is the fully oxidized form – the form sold commercially. Once ingested and absorbed in the body – almost 90% of Ubiquinone is converted into its “active” antioxidant form called Ubiquinol.
